Horace E. "Chip" Walpole, Jr, MD, MS, is the medical director for Regency Hospital - Upstate. In this role since 2004, Chip is responsible for overseeing onboarding with attention to quality and performance metrics of physicians and APPs, working with clinical and administrative leadership at Regency Hospital and helping develop understanding and compliance with services provided through the processes unique to the critical illness recovery hospital environment.

Before taking on this role, Chip worked as regional medical director and National Medical Advisory Board Member under the CMO. Prior to Select Medical, he gained experience in direct sales and marketing, chemical and clinical research and in private practice of iternal mdicine for 22 years. He served in the Army National Guard for seven years.

Chip attained his MS and MD from The Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency at Wake Forest/Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
