Working together to make recovery possible

Critical care requires teamwork. Our teams are comprised of skilled professionals who work in close collaboration. After patients are evaluated, our team develops an individualized treatment program for them that is overseen by a physician.

Your interdisciplinary team may include:

  • Nurses: on duty 24 hours a day to assist with medications, self-care, and help reinforce mobility activities. Specially trained wound care nurses may also manage surgical or pre-existing skin injuries.
  • Nursing assistants: This individual assists with daily living activities under the direction of the registered nurse.
  • Respiratory therapists: also available around the clock to supervise ventilator-dependent patients, lead breathing exercises and conduct liberation programs.
  • Physical therapists: to help optimize muscle control, balance, flexibility and movement, and build strength and endurance.
  • Occupational therapists: to help you regain skills and strategies to perform daily activities, such as dressing, grooming and eating.  They also assess whether assistive equipment is needed and help resolve any visual or cognitive issues you may have.
  • Speech-language pathologists: to work with you to improve language, cognition and communication skills, as well as swallowing deficits.
  • Case managers: who coordinate your discharge, helping plan for the appropriate destination, continued medical and rehabilitation services and equipment, as well as sharing any community and other resources that may be available.
  • Pharmacists: who work closely with physicians, nurses and therapists to ensure that your medication needs are met.
  • Dietitians: who provide a nutritional plan to help you regain strength. This may include supplements or texture modifications as directed by the medical team, as well as vegetarian, kosher or other special dietary needs.

In addition, other clinical, administrative and support staff may be consulted as warranted.
